I joined in 2023 with the goal of creating a multi-brand design system based in accessibility guidelines and light/dark mode settings. This was achieved with collaborating with multiple business areas and stakeholders, customers, designers and developers. It all landed in a white label solution to be the corner stone platform for all design development moving forward.

Initial plan

To execute the vision, work began in the discovery phase, researching Tele2's brands and involving them early in the white-label concept. Starting with their existing design languages, and the specific needs of their users in terms of accessibility and light/dark/expressive mode preferences.

Moving on from there, the next step was to gather all this information to define our scope for the design system. This was done together with the development architect and UX designers. Our main focus was to create a system flexible enough for brands to be able to express their unique branding, whilst keep it maintainable and functional on scale.

Research & Prototyping

We had to ensure that users could easily adapt and use the design system — no matter what department they're working in. Therefor we early on opted for convenience for the end user within all components and patterns throughout to make it accessible for all user types.

One of many solutions involved creating variables within Figma that integrated with each other to automatically recognize branding, typography and iconography. These features didn't only cut time and effort for our UX designers, it also increased the usage of the design system throughout the company.

Designing tokens & components

To make this process more user-friendly, we conducted extensive research and experimented with different designers to create simple tokens that were intuitive and easy to memorize. We standardized spacing, padding and patterns for how to build responsive pages.

Adapting the system to the Product UX

We explored different use cases that could apply to a wide range of products. After several tests, we developed components that can adapt to Tele2's wide range of products, platforms and branding.
